Report: Street Fighter V's Sales Are Tanking

It's no secret that Street Fighter V had a rough launch. Capcom was slow to rollout several features – the game's arcade, challenge, and story modes were all missing at launch. This bare bones release didn't help reviews (here's ours) when the game launched, and it doesn't seem to have helped sales over the last several months.

Back in May, Capcom announced that Street Fighter V had sold over 1.4 million copies since its launch in February. Capcom recently updated that online financial report, and Street Fighter V's needle hasn't moved. Since Street Fighter's sales still sit at 1.4 million, that means the game has sold less than 100,000 units over the last six months. Even Capcom's continued support of the game and a steady stream of DLC hasn't seemed to help encourage players to pick up the game.

Our Take
For a game of Street Fighter's caliber, these are really sad numbers. This is a hard lesson for Capcom, but hopefully the publisher has learned not to limit a game's content before release. Unless this is some kind of clerical error, it's not likely that we see Street Fighter V's numbers move up dramatically anytime soon. Hopefully, this isn't a bad sign for the future of the series.
