SNK Pulls Back The Curtain On SNK Mini

Miniconsoles are all the rage and SNK is officially taking part after teasing a draped arcade cabinet a few weeks ago.

The company, which is commemorating its 40th anniversary this year, is celebrating with a mini version of its MVS arcade cabinet containing forty of their games. As a standalone device, it is fully functional, measuring about 5 inches tall with a 3.5 inch screen and arcade controls attached.

Thankfully, it also works as most miniconsoles traditionally do with HDMI out and controller compatibility, so you don't have to play it on its own if you don't have to. While SNK didn't release a game list in their announcement, the official pictures show Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown, King of Fighters 97 and 98, and a few others.

SNK has only announced the SNK Mini for Japan and Asian markets right now, but plan to release it internationally eventually. The international version is going to look cosmetically different and be a little less colorful than the Asian one. SNK has not yet given release or pricing information, but considering it has its own screen, I wouldn't expect it to be cheap.

Our Take
A lot of how I feel about this will depend on build quality and price. If it feels cheap but costs a lot, I doubt I'll enjoy using it much. Guess there's not much to do until SNK announces the details and we can get our hands on it.
