Nintendo held an hour-and-a-half-long discussion about The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild during this year's Game Developers Conference today that revealed a number of interesting tidbits about the game's long development, including some pretty out there design ideas. You can watch a video of the talk yourself next week but until then, here are some of the more interesting points:
- The team wanted to make Breath Of The Wild a more "active" game than previous entries have been, creating a world teeming with many interactable objects for the player to mess around with.
- Early ideas for Breath Of The Wild included an alien invasion and a game called Hyrule Wars. Nintendo also showcased some character art featuring Link as a guitar-playing, motorcycle-riding hero.
- Nintendo made a 2D Zelda prototype to test out some of Breath Of The Wild's features, like weather and how objects react to your actions.
Nintendo also livetweeted the event with the hashtag '#Zelda' if you want to check out more shots from the talk.
The quickest way to bring these ideas to life, and present it to the team, a 2D prototype of #Zelda was created. pic.twitter.com/OJnE4yt8Oi
