A few days ago, images of a Super Mario Cereal appeared on the internet, with Kellog's confirming its existence shortly after. Images of the box showed that the box itself acted as an Amiibo with Super Mario Odyssey, with the back of the box promising a vague "power up your adventure" functionality.
Thanks to a blog post from Nintendo, we now know what it does: unlock gold coins or a heart. That's it.
Depending on how often it can be activated, it might not be the worst thing in the world. There are challenges in the game that could definitely be aided by a heart every so often and there is a costume in the game that costs 9999 coins. It is also probably a good thing that the Amiibo in a possibly hard-to-find cereal box is not adding critical aspects to a game.
The cereal box will start hitting store shelves on December 11.

Our Take
I probably shouldn't want that cereal, but I do. Amiibo functionality does not tip my sweet tooth either way.
