All the Ways Dungeons and Dragons Can Prepare You For Real Life

Playing tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder thankfully doesn’t carry the same stigma it once did. That’s great because as this TEDx talk explains, the game can do a lot to help you in real life.

As writer Ethan Gilsdorf explains in the video above, Dungeons and Dragons is a complex game that exercises a ton of skills that you don’t normally get to work with all at once. You can practice teamwork, creative problem solving, and develop empathy. It allows you to try out different identities than the person you may be in real life.

It’s easy to dismiss the practical benefits of a game that’s built on magic spells, evil trolls, and fantastic worlds. However, if you do a job that requires mental or creative labor, training on the fantasy grounds of role playing games helps exercise those muscles for your everyday life.
