During a USC tech conference yesterday, Disney CEO Bob Iger dispelled rumors that Star Wars: The Last Jedi's story would be altered following the death of Carrie Fisher, Variety reports.
"We are not changing '8' to deal with her passing," he said. "Her performance remains as it was in '8.' In Rogue One, we created digitally a few characters. We're not doing that with Carrie."
This news has led to even more fan speculation about Leia's role in the film. In The Force Awakens, Leia is left with two significant plot points hanging over her. Since The Last Jedi picks up seconds after the conclusion of Force Awakens, we'll undoubtedly see how she copes with the death of Han Solo. She also thought her son Ben could be saved, but her tone on that matter may change after learning what he did.
Some fans believe Leia may die in this film, perhaps at the hands of Kylo Ren. Others speculate her importance in this story will fade, and her involvement will end after reacquainting with her brother Luke.
What's your take on this news? Do you think Episode IX will be altered or do you see her story ending in The Last Jedi?
