Activision Says That Call Of Duty: WWII Sold Double Infinite Warfare's Launch

Activision is very happy about Call of Duty: WWII's launch, saying that the newest game in the series doubled last year's Infinite Warfare launch.

The mega-publisher bragged that, in dollar amount, Call of Duty: WWII did better than both Thor: Ragnarok and Wonder Woman's opening weekends combined. That's an impressive claim, though it does compare a $60 video game to $10 movie tickets, so some perspective helps there.

Back in February, Activision chief operating office Thomas Tippl expressed disappointment in Infinite Warfare, noting that it underperformed and that the setting must not have resonated with people. It seems World War II does resonate with people, if the numbers stay high after launch. They unfortunately did not provide the contrasting number for the two opening weekends.

Call of Duty: WWII launched last week and you can find our review of the game right here.

Our Take
Call of Duty has been declining off and on for a little bit, so it will be good for the series if these launch numbers buck the trend. It remains to be seen how everything will go in the coming weeks and months.
