IO Interactive's Hitman Hits Seven Million Player Milestone

Hitman, the episodic stealth assassination title from IO Interactive, has crossed the seven million player mark to coincide with the game's recent content update

After IO Interactive and Square-Enix split in May, the future of the Hitman series was up in the air. It was confirmed in June that IO Interactive was transforming into a leaner independent studio and retained the rights to the Hitman license. Questions of season two and extra content have lingered until recently, with the Hitman Game of the Year Edition and IO speaking up about the next Hitman game.

The number comes from a letter from IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak. In the letter, Abrak thanks fans for sticking with the game and refers to the next Hitman game.

If you're on the fence about the Hitman GOTY edition, you can find us playing it right here. Hopefully we find out about season two, or whatever the next Hitman content is, before too long.

Our Take
Hitman was one of the best games of 2016, but it sounds like IO Interactive is landing on their feet after the split with Square-Enix.
