The Kickstarted revival of Toejam & Earl published by Adult Swim has been pushed to 2018, according to a backer update.
The game is the result of a 2015 Kickstarter from Humanature Studio, promised as "the ultimate sequel" to the Toejam & Earl series. With Greg Johnson, Humanature founder and co-creator of Toejam & Earl, in tow, the Kickstarter hit about 130% of their $400,000 goal. A year later, Adult Swim stepped in to add in the extra funds needed as they aimed for a 2017 release.
"Game development is an inexact science and it's our priority to deliver the best, most solid game we can," wrote Johnson. "To get the game across the finish line we need to push into 2018, but rest assured we are working our butts off and you guys are going to get an awesome game."
The game is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch.

Our Take
Shame about the delay, but Kickstarted developers are learning how important it is to be cautious and making sure everything is right. It's difficult to get funding again if a crowdfunded game disappoints.
