Far Cry 5 may not reinvent the franchise, but it looks like it doesn't need to, as it's already on track to be one of Ubisoft's biggest sellers ever.
According to Ubisoft, the game sold twice as many copies in its first week as Far Cry 4 did, making it the fastest-selling entry in the series. Digital sales from places like PSN, Xbox Live, Steam, and Uplay accounted for more than half of those sales. This amounts to $310 million in spending in the first week, making it Ubisoft's second-most successful launch (the first being The Division).
Ubisoft also shared a number of streaming and video stats. Players spent over 55,000 hours streaming the game on Twitch, and Youtuber videos have garnered 117 million views. For more stats (including the number of hours players have spent with the Cheeseburger the lovable grizzly bear), check out Ubisoft's full blog post.

Our Take
While Far Cry 5 isn't my favorite entry in the series by a longshot, it's still able to muster up just enough dumb, fun moments in co-op that I'm still having a good time. And with a more familiar setting and the promise of a provocative story (even though it doesn't really follow up on that promise), it's now wonder it's selling so well.
