Shaquille O'Neal is set to have another shot at redeeming himself with Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn this spring, but in the meantime, the retired NBA legend is returning to the court in a roundabout way with the NBA 2K League.
Real NBA teams own their virtual counterparts in this new esports scene, and Shaq will be the general manager of the Sacramento Kings' team: Kings Guard Gaming. With Shaq being a minority owner of the Sacramento Kings, the move isn't too surprising. Starting May 2018, all teams will compete in the inaugural season after draft picks have been made with six players per team on April 4.

While the influence and responsibilities that Shaq will take on remain vague, he said, "I'm looking forward to my role with Kings Guard. Just like I dominated the hardwood, music industry, showbiz, nicknames and broadcasting, I plan to help build the most dominant 2K franchise in history."
King's Guard will be fourth in line to pick players and have a facility devoted to training them.

Our Take
With the Overwatch League being relatively new, it's interesting to see another massive leap forward for esports with this large initiative that's intimately connected with and supported by the NBA. It'll be fascinating to watch how much attention it draws this coming May, but with Shaq on the Kings Guard's side, there's nothing they won't be able to do.
