Warner Bros. Strikes Deal With IO Interactive For Hitman: Definitive Edition

Warner Bros. and Hitman developer IO Interactive have announced that Warner Bros. is publishing Hitman: Definitive Edition on May 15 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

This new edition of the game not only combines the episodic content of the 2016 title's first season, it also adds new disguises based on previous IO Interactive titles Kane & Lynch, Freedom Fighters, and Mini Ninjas.

Hitman: Definitive Edition Includes (text from Warner Bros.):

  • IO Interactive's 20th Anniversary Outfit Bundle – Three new outfits inspired by Freedom Fighters, Kane & Lynch, and Mini Ninjas
  • Hitman Season One (Main Game) – Seven exotic locations from the first season, including Paris, Sapienza, Marrakesh, Bangkok, Colorado and Hokkaido, along with the ICA Facility
  • Hitman Game of the Year Edition Content – Four missions from the Patient Zero Campaign, three themed Escalation Contracts that unlock three unique weapons, as well as the Clown Suit, Cowboy Suit, and Raven Suit from the recent Game of the Year Edition digital release
  • Hitman Summer Bonus Episode – Featuring ICA bonus missions in Sapienza and Marrakesh
  • Hitman: Blood Money Requiem Pack – Including the Requiem Suit, Pale Duck Explosive, and ICA Chrome Pistol
  • All featured Contracts, Escalation Contracts, Challenge Packs, and game updates from Hitman Season One and the Hitman Game of the Year Edition

As for what's next for the series in terms of brand-new content, or the second season, late last year the developer hinted that new developments could possibly be announced this year.

In the middle of last year, former owner Square Enix sold off IO Interactive, who became independent and retained the rights to the Hitman franchise.

Our Take
We'll have to wait and see if this is a kick-the-tires agreement in advance of a possibly more involved relationship in the future or just a one-off. Given that IO just got its independence and seems to be doing well, I have a feeling that this is more of the latter.
