Switch Version Of NBA Playgrounds Relaunches With Enhanced Edition

Arcade-style basketball game NBA Playgrounds launched on Switch on May 9, alongside the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions, but lacked online play due to apparent technical hurdles. After two weeks, developer Saber Interactive promised that online would be patched in eventually. Now, six months after that announcement, Saber has released an Enhanced Edition of the Switch game that just outright replaces the May release.

Titled NBA Playgrounds - Enhanced Edition, the new game/patch/mandatory replacement compiles all the post-launch content that appeared on NBA Playgrounds on the other system and the online play promised last May. These extra contents include a hundred new players from both classic and modern eras, new jerseys, revamped rebounding system, and more.

The new download is also two gigs smaller than the previous version, indicating that some work has been spent on optimizing the game to have a smaller footprint on the Switch's internal storage.

To quell anger over the Switch version missing features for the last six months, Saber had promised that all Switch owners would receive the upcoming Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn. As soon as Saber made the announcement of the Enhanced Edition, fans were quick to ask about their free copies of Shaq-Fu. Saber assured them that it's still on the way.

You can download the new version on the Switch eShop.

Our Take
I remember the part about the game lacking online and Saber promising to add it, but I naturally assumed they just stopped working on it. It is surprising that they still released it, but I'm still more surprised how long it took.
