Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (May 25, 2017)

Persona and Atlus take over Blog Herding this week, and it is cool to see a developer and series that wasn't well known when it first debuted be written about so much and loved. There are plenty of other great blogs, including a blast from the relatively recent past and blog on a tabletop game.

Community Blogs For May 18 – May 24:

One Man's Thoughts: Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
Many people love the Zero Escape series, but Attackcobra really only stuck around for the story. Otherwise he isn't so keen on the dialogue or the characters. From what I can gather, he considers it an above average game, but one that gets a little boring with all of the door opening and map hopping.

Persona 5 is One Of The Coolest Games Ever Made
Everything from the menus to the music to the art design yells cool to Refle. When it comes to the soundtrack, you know it's great with Shoji Meguro working on it. I've been loving his work since Shin Megami: Tensei, Persona, and Maken X. But our blogger writes that even the characters ooze cool. I wish I had that swagger.

How Persona 5 Stole My Heart
MightyMagikarp says the latest Atlus hit is more than just well-made – it's one that sucks you into its world and never lets go. The recreation of Tokyo is top-notch and alive. "Simply put, Persona 5 took my heart," writes our blogger. As a diehard Megaten and Persona fan, I want to play this, but Breath of the Wild currently has my heart.

Dark Souls Table Top: A Quick Recap
This punishing series does not seem like it would translate well into a tabletop game, but Brendon Curzio likes it. He writes that it is full of depth and freedom, but is also a bit of a grind at first. I do say that it would take me some time to get used to the tile-based combat, rather than simply running into battle and dying immediately like I am wont to do in the video game.

About Last Night: The Injustice Of Laylee
Born4this recaps games he played the night before, this time choosing two that are very much different. In one corner is the cartoony Yooka-Laylee. It seemed to be an okay experience. Plus, Shovel Knight makes an appearance. Injustice, a dark and brooding fighting game, doesn't get a lot of the spotlight, but "seems better in almost every way."

The Importance Of First Impressions
I'm not a first impression kind of person, but Haley is all into the idea when it comes to games. She explains how E3 trailers can excite a gamer into anticipating a game for years. I don't watch movie trailers (I seriously close my eyes, plug my ears, and hum during trailers I can't watch), and the same goes for video games. I typically know what I like or will research things I might be interested in. I just don't like being swayed one way or another, or ruining anything. Example: It was such a great surprise to learn Force Awakens had a female lead while actually watching the movie, rather than the trailer.

Everything Wrong With Fallout New Vegas
StarterPack gives fair warning before dissecting fan-favorite New Vegas. He has a lot of gripes with the story and the fact that it doesn't explain enough of the factions. Most of the game is griped on, and I can see where StarterPack is coming from. I still enjoyed running around the world, exploring every nook and cranny, though not as much as 3.

Community Reviews:

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Review: The Drama Of The Emblem
The Atlus love is continued with Insane_Buffoon's review of this hard-to-believe crossover. I've still to buy this game, even though it has been on clearance for around $30 recently in town. And here again I am reading about just how excellent and unexpected this game truly is.

Writing Challenge:

What's the funniest way you have ever died in a video game? Death is horrible in the real world, but in video games, it can reach into the realm of goofy. Some that come to my mind are constantly throwing grenades that bounce off walls and back to me in Halo 3, a barrel glitch in Demon Souls that made me quit the series (I was shot straight into a wall and stuck), and don't even get me started on Borderlands deaths.
