Mainstream media tends to focus on violence and sex in video gaming, but Fallout 4 made a recent appearance on CNN in a different context: As an image used to illustrate hacking.
The news outlet used a screen of the Fallout 4 hacking minigame to accompany a piece explaining the U.S. government sanctions against Russia. The image below was shared on Reddit, pointing out the similar formats between the lines of code displayed in Fallout 4 and those in the CNN piece.
Computer hacking is a complex topic that may be difficult for people to understand in detail, but maybe using a screen from a post-apocalyptic, alternate-future video game isn't the best (or most accurate) way to clear things up.
The incident didn't go unnoticed by Fallout 4 developer Bethesda, either. The company sent the below tweet referencing Mr. Robot, a TV show with a focus on hacking.
